The Register of Play Inspectors International (RPII) was created to uphold the safety of all children during play, whether it occurs indoors or outdoors.

As the officially recognised body in the United Kingdom, our primary focus lies in accrediting and certifying inspectors responsible for evaluating the safety of inflatable structures, indoor play facilities, and outdoor recreation areas (playgrounds, skate parks, outdoor fitness areas, multi-use games areas and parkour equipment). Additionally, we provide accreditation for training courses aimed at equipping inspectors with the necessary expertise.

We know the vital role that play provides in shaping a child’s physical and mental development and we strive to ensure that every child has access to safe and enriching play spaces to ensure they explore, learn and grow.

Recognising the significance of prioritising play safety, we emphasise its importance not only for the well-being of children utilising these facilities but also for the organisations tasked with maintaining the play areas. By engaging certified playground inspectors who meet our stringent criteria and have undergone comprehensive training to conduct inspections to the mandated levels of competence, providers can be assured of a peace of mind.

Our overarching vision is straightforward yet crucial: to ensure the safety of all play areas and equipment. We accomplish this by accrediting and certifying individual play inspectors who exemplify our rigorous standards of knowledge and competence. Moreover, we maintain an extensive register of these inspectors and actively promote their services to organisations and individuals seeking their expertise.

Comprising industry experts well-versed in all domains within our remit, our board of directors guarantees comprehensive coverage across all areas overseen by our organisation. Furthermore, we maintain a close collaborative relationship with the esteemed British Standards Institute (BSI).

Our registered inspectors exhibit exceptional proficiency in evaluating children’s play areas and equipment, specialising in three distinct areas: indoor play and Family Entertainment Center (FEC) centers, inflatable play equipment, and outdoor recreation areas in which children or older users play and/or exercise.

We acknowledge the criticality of independent accreditation for play inspections. Leveraging our collective knowledge and expertise, we provide a robust platform for inspectors both in the UK and around the world to showcase their competency. The Register yields numerous benefits for inspectors, employers, and the general public, including authorizing accredited organisations to administer inspector courses, upholding a code of conduct for registered inspectors, and more.

Ultimately, we firmly uphold the principle that playground safety is of paramount importance, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the well-being of all individuals involved.
